The Tablet points out that African American author Alice Walker endorsed a horribly antisemitic book ... and the New York Times, which published this endorsement, let that go without comment.
If a Pole or Polonian made any such endorsement, you can bet that the NYT would comment.

Bieganski the Blog exists to further explore the themes of the book Bieganski the Brute Polak Stereotype, Its Role in Polish-Jewish Relations and American Popular Culture.
These themes include the false and damaging stereotype of Poles as brutes who are uniquely hateful and responsible for atrocity, and this stereotype's use in distorting WW II history and all accounts of atrocity.

ReplyDeleteSince its inception, the NEW YORK TIMES (deservedly called the NEW YORK SLIMES or the NEW YORK TASS) has been publishing hateful Polonophobic articles.
And now...just once...the shoe is on the other foot.
I love the New York Times. It's a great newspaper. John Darnton won the Pulitzer Prize for his excellent coverage of Solidarity and Martial Law. No other news source provided such thorough coverage.
ReplyDeleteYes, the NYT has disseminated Bieganski. But that's not the alpha and omega of the newspaper.
The fact that it may be a decent or even excellent newspaper is irrelevant. What it did 40 years ago is also irrelevant. More recently, it refused to strip Duranty of the Pulitzer and has been openly anti-Polish. The New York Times and the Washington Post are enemies of the Polish nation. There is only way to deal with enemies - at least those that cannot be reformed. Pretending that an enemy is not an enemy is not that way.
