Nobel-Prize-Winner Olga Tokarczuk's "The Books of Jacob" to appear in English and Hebrew. The novel is about Jacob Frank, a Jewish-born cult leader. You can read more about the book's implications for Polish-Jewish relations here. 

Yes, "Jew with a Coin" Figurines are Anti-Semitic, and are a Disgrace to Poland

Some argue that Poland's infamous "Jew with a Coin" figurines are innocent and not at all anti-Semitic. Anyone who would make such an argument is either malicious or uninformed about anti-Semitic stereotypes. The association of Jews with money, as if such an association is an essential part of Jewish character, is a staple of anti-Semitic propaganda. See images, below. 

This blog protests stereotyping of both Poles and Jews. Poles who protest stereotyping of Poles but not of Jews are exercising selective outrage, which is not an ethically coherent position, but mere chauvinism.

Krakow Bans Offensive and Idiotic "Jew with a Coin" Figurines

Krakow says it has banned sale of the idiotic and offensive "Jew with a coin" figurines sold in tourist shops there. Good! I hope this ban is successful. Wikipedia offers a good summary of the "Jew with a coin" phenom here. 

"Poland Never Again Tour" by Christians United for Israel. Poland = the Holocaust

 In my book, Bieganski, the Brute Polak Stereotype, I argue that Poland has become a metonym for the Holocaust. A metonym is a word that has become so related to another concept in the popular mind that it stands in for that concept in speech. For example, "Capitol hill" is a metonym for the US Congress. Another metonym would be "suits" for company executives, as in "We have to see what the suits think." This is because businessmen wear suits. 

Christians United for Israel is hosting a "Poland Never Again Tour" Yes that really is the name of the tour. Christians United for Israel thus grotesquely distorts history and gratuitously insults all Poles. Christians United for Israel utterly conflates Poland and the Holocaust. The Holocaust must never happen again, and Poland must be erased. Please contact this organization and request that they change the name of their tour. Thanks to Jerzy for sending this in.

"Condemning Anti-Semitism No Longer Allowed": Jewish Journal

 The Jewish Journal cites incidents where speakers were castigated for condemning anti-Semitism. Yes, really. 

The provost of Rutgers University, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and San Diego State activists were all condemned for condemning anti-Semitism. Some complied by publicly shaming themselves and saying that they also condemn prejudice against Muslims. 

It's all a sickening power game.
