Polish death camps tweet from 2018. see original here
Why is this tweet a problem? For the full answer please read Bieganski the Brute Polak Stereotype.
For a shorter answer, consider this. How would you react when someone who is an anti-Semite repeats over and over the phrase "___ish communism"? That phrase is so controversial I can't even type it out.
Or "___ish kapo"?
People who speak like that don't want to know or speak the truth. They want to stir up hatred.
The same is true of those who mindlessly repeat "Polish death camps." I can type out "Polish death camps" and I will not be punished. My post will not be hidden by Google.
The difference is that this woman is a respected journalist at the Jerusalem Post. She is allowed to spread mindless hate in this way. Whereas the anti-Semite who mindlessly repeats the above two smears is, rightfully, sidelined. And that double standard is one key to understanding the Bieganski, Brute Polak Stereotype.
The "Polish death camp" lie is, first and foremost, a provocation. It is verbalized not so much with the hope that some people will actually believe that the Nazi German camps were Polish, but rather that, in the public imagination, Poland gets blamed alongside Germany in terms of the German-made Holocaust.
ReplyDeleteI think Jan you are exactly right when you say it is a provocation. I assume that the person who wrote this knows what the truth is - that these were camps that Poles suffered and died in, not ones they set up - so isn't this saying: You have been moved to the Axis Side and there is nothing you can do about it - ha ha?
DeletePeople urgently need to know how to cope with this kind of provocation from the world, without being shaped by it. The danger is of being provoked into retaliating in kind. Or of just giving up in despair, and losing all hope in the wonderful future that lies just ahead.
And i can only say again that Psalm 37 provides perfect advice - along with an assurance that the current wicked system of things on the earth will soon be gone.
"Let go of anger and abandon rage;
Do not become upset and turn to doing evil.
For evil men will be done away with,
But those hoping in Jehovah will possess the earth.
Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more;
You will look at where they were,
And they will not be there.
But the meek will possess the earth,
And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."
- Psalm 37:8-11
And Jesus himself referred to this promise when he said that the meek would inherit "the earth". It will be an earth not only with no more war and no more lies, but all ruled by the law of loving-kindness. Did you know that . under the loving rule of the Kingdom of God, nature will no longer be "red in tooth and claw"?
And there is time still for all of us to seek for and find our loving Creator, including the writer of the nasty Tweets of course.
