Bieganski at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

The University of Wisconsin-Madison and its Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies will be hosting a talk by me about the Bieganski, Brute Polak Stereotype on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at four p.m., in the Marquee at Union South.

Nowadays, of course, more than ever, I add the postscript: "God willing."

I am personally grateful to the University, to the Mosse/Weinstein Center, and to the very wonderful scholar and mensch James P. Leary, an Irish-American who has contributed greatly to Polonia through his scholarship, for this invitation.

    Oh, I wish I could meet up with you there but travel such a long way even though you are certainly closer is difficult. I am so happy you will be able to give another talk!!! Keepin' my fingers crossed. If I could find another person to drive - my car even and I'd pay for gas from Kansas City to Madison and back - I'd try to make it happen!!!! Christina Pacosz

    Could You have it arranged to be recorded and put on Youtube or Googlevideo? Otherwise,I will most probably never be able to see/hear You.Also, this topic is extremly important to us-it would be great if more people were able to see it.Or even,if more people in Poland would realize that there are actually great people all over the world fighting for our cause :-D Good Luck!

    You are still doing some Caped Crusading then! Good for you, but I hope it isn't too much for you at the moment. And I hope its well attended. If you have time, I would love to know what sort of feedback you get. Some people clearly have no idea of the campaign of vilification against Poles, but i imagine that your audience will. They will have a clearer idea of the politics after they have heard you.

    I knew a lovely American girl, an artist, in Saudi, who was married - happily - happy second marriage, after a bad first - to a Polish-American. She was really shocked to find out what had been happening - and angry about. And, I hope, starting to think about things.

Bieganski the Blog exists to further explore the themes of the book Bieganski the Brute Polak Stereotype, Its Role in Polish-Jewish Relations and American Popular Culture.
These themes include the false and damaging stereotype of Poles as brutes who are uniquely hateful and responsible for atrocity, and this stereotype's use in distorting WW II history and all accounts of atrocity.
