Just saying Hi

I haven't been posting much lately. That's not because a lot has not been going on. A lot has been going on. An American governmental figure insulted Poland and Poland's leadership. A new American president is betraying American values and alliances. Lech Walesa and other prominent Polish heroes spoke out in opposition. And world class scholars of fascism are relating what's happening in Washington and in the country to grim historical events, like the rise of fascism in early twentieth century Europe.

Praying.

PS: Not interested in debating with Trump supporters in the comments section, so if you feel tempted to mount a defense of any of this, please do that in a different venue. Thank you in advance.

  1. Here's some sublime music for these turbulent times:

    1. I think we need more than sublime music at this point. We need the spirit of our heroes who resisted fascism

    2. They are not mutually exclusive. But it's up to American voters to resist what looks like creeping autocracy. It's not that they weren't warned. Trump was pretty clear about how he was going to proceed if elected.

    3. Very tender music Michal - thanks. Makes me think of the lost harmony of Eden. And reminds me that the restoration of paradise earthwide lies ahead - so close now.

This restoration will not come through any human government though, given we were not designed to rule over each other.

And no I do not think that these Polish media issues have gone away, - I managed to miss this recent insult to Poles and the Polish government - though I do wonder if they have gone slightly onto the back burner given all that is happening in the world. Time will tell no doubt.

  2. Each to his/her own. Chacun à son goût. Personally I find good music can help me through some difficult times. Hope the USA soon reverts to what it used to be - the inspiration of nations.

Glad you like the music, Sue. I think Alfred Brendel is one of the true greats, along with Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim and a few select others. My comment above was by way of replying to Danusha, about the 'spirit of heroes resisting fascism.'

Danusha and her readers here are quite obviously acutely aware of the dangers of a country going down the autocratic route and where this route can lead to because of what our parents' generation experienced. Anyone with a central European background may be feeling uneasy about the direction which the USA seems to taking. This may not be actual fascism yet - at the moment it looks like the beginnings of an autocracy - a plutocracy, perhaps, if you consider the influence an unelected billionaire has on the president - but the warning lights are flashing.

What would old Ben Franklin have said? Or George Washington? Or Thomas Jefferson? Or any of the democratically-minded people who drew up the Declaration of Independence? They might be excused for thinking that today's USA appears to be transforming into a virtual monarchy, precisely the kind of system which they considered unjust and arbitrary.

Sending best wishes to Americans, of whatever background, who are still guided by the ideals of the people who founded the Republic.

    1. Hello Michal, Danusha and all

Yes I think the beauty of music and of poetry - the power of language - is healing and powerful. And consoling. They are perfect gifts from our loving Creator, and I often wonder what we will write and listen to when the whole earth is the paradise it was always meant to be.
We are promised there will be more inspired writings from the Creator then. So will there be a poem as lovely as The Song of Solomon? I hope we are all there to find out.
