The Ulma family of Markowa, Poland, was recently beatified. I spoke in Markowa years ago about my work on Bieganski, the Brute Polak stereotype. I had a lovely time. I wanted to make a documentary -- I wrote up a plan -- then I was told I had cancer and would probably not survive. I couldn't find funders or any Polish Americans who were even interested in the plan so I let it go. Oh, Polonia, if only you supported your scholars more than you do.
Bieganski the Blog exists to further explore the themes of the book Bieganski the Brute Polak Stereotype, Its Role in Polish-Jewish Relations and American Popular Culture.
These themes include the false and damaging stereotype of Poles as brutes who are uniquely hateful and responsible for atrocity, and this stereotype's use in distorting WW II history and all accounts of atrocity.

ReplyDeleteAs for the Ulma family, no sooner had they been beatified than a rash of accusatory media stories came out about Poles killing 24 Markowa Jews. This tale is based upon only one source, and is entirely hearsay. (I can provide the scholarly source if asked.)
Mr. Jan Grabowski is very active in spreading these accusations.
DeleteThe problem is not just Grabowski. The problem is the media that gives Grabowski continued uncritical coverage. The problem is also the Holocaust establishment that circles the wagon around Grabowski, and makes a hero-martyr out of him.
DeleteI have reviewed this book. The Jewish author admits that many Jews hate Poles more than Jews hate Germans.
